Parting Shot

Folks,

Today is my last day of service in the Bank and I am being relieved 'at close of business hours' !! Being a vehement proponent of the fact that Security Officers should only be doing 'Security Management', particularly in these 'terrible' times, I have penned a couple of lines on this occasion :

" कह चले हम अलविदा RBI को सथियो ,
अब तुम्हारे हवाले 'झाडू-पोचा' और 'trolley' साथियो "

PS : To be sung to the tune of the famous song from the movie "Haqeeeqat"
PPS : My friends who believe that we should take on whatever additional tasks are dished out to us may find this post 'offensive'. My apologies !!

Dear Capt Bisht,

Yes it did sound bit discordant, but, knowing the general approach of management in Government sector, it is very difficult to resist the additional responsibilities which are piled upon the security professionals. I was surprised to know that in some PSUs, the security executives are given the role of protocol, transport, catering etc. In one case it was horticulture!

I am sure you will remain in touch. My other emails are –

Dear Capt Tyagi,
"Discordant" is rightly said by you. No one in his right mind wants to leave a secure job when one is quite senior in the hierarchy. But there are limits to tolerance when it comes to issues like 'job content', 'job enrichment' and 'job satisfaction'. I will be sharing my thoughts with my friends and well wishers through my blog and thanks for inviting me to your blog. Things will pick up on this front once I settle down and get my net connection in a couple of weeks time.

The entire fraternity would sooner or latter realise that it's demeaning to be given such tasks when we declare ourselves professionals/Security Managers. Nowhere today in an organised sector a professional is spared to do these menial jobs. It's up to us - if we love doing it, we'll keep doing it. If you want to bring a change, it's certainly possible. A lot of people are affraid of 'change'. That's the problem in our context. One has to take one's stand. If we are affraid that the management may backfire, then it's timidity. We have every right to fight for justice. Why should an ex defence officer be earmarked for cleaning of the toilets! We have a lot of better things to do.
Sorry if it hurts. But Love Hurts.
